Wine making goes back to colonial New Zealand. British Resident James Busby was growing grapes for wine as early as 1836.
New Zealand wines offers an impressive array of varieties and styles. Central to our success is New Zealand’s temperate, maritime climate, the unswerving passion of our wine producers and the highly distinctive nature of our wine styles. It was Sauvignon Blanc that put New Zealand on the wine map, however the diversity and sophistication of our portfolio of wine styles has ensured the love affair with New Zealand wine lives on around the world. You may know about New Zealand's famous white wines from Marlborough that got us onto the World Stage but you may not know we have beautiful Pinot Noir, Merlot and others with a different taste from all other countries. In addition we have some very interesting varieties such as Dolcetto, Malbec, Viognier, PInot Gris/Pinot Grigio, Sangiovese and many more. New Zealand's expansive coastline enables us to succeed with a range of diverse varieties and styles; from the warmer climate wines, such as Bordeaux-style blends and Syrah, grown in Hawke's Bay and further north, through to much cooler climate wines, such as Pinot Noir and Riesling grown in the southerly regions. Whatever your preferences for wine styles, chances are we have a New Zealand Wine to suit your palate. We offer wines from all the great regions including Marlborough, Martinborough, Wairarapa, Gisborne, Hawkes Bay and Central Otago. As well as other, perhaps, lesser known but very high quality regions and boutique areas like Bannockburn, Bendigo, Canterbury Plains, Cloudy Bay, Gibbston, Gisborne, Kumeu, Kurow, Matakana, Nelson, Northland, Te Kauwhata, Waiheke Island and Waipara. |
